Top-3% of students study 'for free' at Maastricht University
Maastricht University wants to encourage talent. Attracting, cherishing and stimulating talented students is one of the main aims of the 2007/2010 Strategic Programme. A new scheme has been introduced for this purpose, giving the top 3% of students the opportunity to study at UM ’free of charge’.
Scholarship
As from the Academic Year 2007/08, the ‘best 3%’ of students will be eligible for a scholarship in the amount of their tuition fees for that year. The scholarship will be applied to the following academic year, on the condition of course that they continue their studies at UM. The amount for the final year of the bachelor’s programme will be applied toward the master’s programme. Students in the final year of a master’s programme will receive their tuition back in the form of an award instead of a scholarship. This procedure will be ineffective as from the academic year 2011/2012.
