Programme information:
The 2 day visitors workshop is the primer workshop for all those interested in “the Maastricht approach” and SHE’s vast experience in health professions education.

On day 1 an introduction in the core principles and exchange of best practices in problem-based learning (PBL) will be offered with themes like:

  • Tutors and tutorial groups
  • The curriculum: structure, development, reform
  • Student assessment
  • Skills training, practical medical training

On the second day participants can compose their personal programme based on their specific interests. SHE staff experts will share their knowledge, experiences and research in modules to choose such as:

  • Evidence for the Maastricht Approach
  • Faculty development
  • Management of education
  • Media and technology in medical education
  • Problem design/block construction
  • Programme evaluation
  • Strategies for change to PBL

Day 2 ends with a discussion with Maastricht medical students on tutorial group experiences.

Objectives
Each participant becomes aware of the psychological background of PBL and its translation into curriculum design and student assessment. Furthermore, following their individual interests, participants can pay special attention to different aspects of PBL, such as block construction, skills training, practical medical training, functioning of tutorial groups, the role of resources, programme evaluation, and management of education.

Student Profile
The Visitors Workshop is designed for teachers, educators, managers, curriculum developers, decision makers or all other interested in education. This highly appreciated workshop runs successfully already for many years and is for those who wish to learn by a hands on approach with interactive lectures, discussions, inter-professional knowledge exchange and small groups work.
For many participants the visitors workshop helped them in being state of the art informed  in health education and become part of a global and multi-cultural SHE network of health education professionals. This workshop provides a rich source of practical and theoretical perspectives to learn from and to apply in their institution.
