The story of:
Frans tan studied Mathematics and Physics at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. In 1983 he was appointed as a consultant researcher at the Department Methodology and Statistics of the faculty of Medicine, University of Maastricht. In 1989 he was appointed as assistant professor at the faculty of health sciences. He received his Ph D in 1994 with a thesis on stochastic modelling of progress tests.
Recent research projects include optimal design problems in random-effects models with special emphasis on longitudinal models. He has published various papers on these topics. His present research interest is on GLMM, longitudinal models, microarrays and optimal designs. He has supervised several PhD students on optimal designs. He also has a broad experience as statistical consultant for social, behavioural, health and medical scientists. As a result of these collaborations with researchers from other departments and other universities and other institutions from abroad, several first and second author papers were published in well established national and international Journals.
