The story of:
I studied medicine at Maastricht University and graduated in 1988. After graduation I worked a year as a senior house officer in psycho-geriatrics. I was offered a job at the school for midwifery to help them build a new problem-based curriculum, which then seemed like a nice challenge. After this I applied for a position as assistant professor at the department of educational development and research at Maastricht University.
I started my PhD on the validity of computerized key-feature approach cases for the assessment of medical problem solving ability, which I completed in 1998. After this I have become more and more involved in assessment development and research.
I am currently the chairman of the taskforce on assessment, which is the group responsible for the quality control and the improvement of all assessment for the three medical curricula (the regular curriculum, the Physician-Clinical Researcher curriculum and the international medical curriculum). My current research topic is innovative assessment, or more specifically research into assessment for learning (as opposed to assessment of learning).
