The story of:
Karen Könings (1975)  graduated as a cognitive/educational psychologist at Maastricht University in 2001. Her PhD thesis “Student perspectives on education: implications for instructional redesign” (2007), which received the dissertation award of the Netherlands Educational Research Association, was concerned with the differences between perspectives of students and teachers about a learning environment.

Her main research interests are the participatory design of instruction (to better account for students’ perspectives), the role of student expectations on their later perceptions of education, and effectiveness of blended learning.

She is coordinating the project “Learning and Working” in which different sub-projects are aimed to promote learning on the workplace by including e-learning tools for students in both the Medical curriculum and the Health Sciences curriculum. She is also involved in the Master of Health Professions Education. Previously, she worked as a teacher in the Master of Education Science and as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Psychology at the Open University of the Netherlands.
