The story of:
Anique de Bruin was trained as an educational psychologist (with a focus on cognitive psychology) at Maastricht University. She obtained her PhD at the Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2006, where she also co-developed the new Psychology curriculum.

In August 2009 she joined the Department of Educational Development and Research as an assistant professor. Her main research interests lie in the field of metacognition and expertise development. More specifically, she is interested in how we can promote self-monitoring and self-regulation of learning activities in students (both adults and children).

She conducts research in the domains of language learning, text comprehension and problem solving (diagnostic medical imaging). She is project leader of an NWO-PROO financed research project titled ‘Fostering self-monitoring and self-regulation in primary and secondary education’. In 2010 she obtained an NWO-Veni grant, titled ‘Some things are better left unsaid. Implicitly improving metacognitive skills in education.’
