Joint Master of Health Professions Education (JMHPE)

The Joint Master of Health Professions Education (JMHPE) programme is a distance learning programme of Maastricht University (MU) jointly with Suez Canal University (SCU), Egypt.

MU and SCU were both founding members of The Network: Towards Unity for Health (TUFH). Being both problem-based medical schools they are quite alike in their institutional objectives, educational strategies, and training plans.

An ideal basis for collaboration, such as the JMHPE programme. The rationale behind this joint programme is to combine the academic MU experience as a pioneering problem-based school in Europe with the practical SCU experience as a pioneering community-oriented and problem-based school in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Due to its geographical position in the heart of the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Egypt is a suitable place for this programme. Accommodation is very affordable, and the Egyptian culture is close to that of other countries in the region.

The teaching staff are faculty members of both Universities and originate from the Eastern Mediterranean Region and the Netherlands. They work under the guidance of the JMHPE Programme Directors Prof. Wagdy Talaat PhD, Head of Medical Education Department Faculty of Medicine Suez Canal University Egypt and Jan van Dalen PhD, Coordinator Communication Skills Training and Assessment at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences of Maastricht University, the Netherlands

The JMHPE programme is an annual 52 weeks (1 calendar year) credit hour based study.
