Elections chair SHEILA 2010
Position of SHEILA’s chairperson
As you may know, in ‘SHE Communicates’ of January 2008, I have been announced as the chairperson of SHEILA in January 2008. I will hold that position until January 2011.
So far, as chair I have organised three pre-conference workshops prior to subsequent AMEE-conferences, and I have ‘spread the word’ of SHEILA’s existence and benefits for MHPE and PhD alumni at various other conferences. The MHPE director, the secretariat and I meet regularly to address new alumni initiatives and to continue current alumni activities. The most recent initiative is that all alumni are invited at the ‘SHE presents’ web conferences. For more info on SHEILA please take a look at the SHE website.
What will happen when my chair-position will end in January 2011? How does SHEILA want to replace its chair?
Well, first of all, it is our own responsibility, as an organisational network, to take care of a procedure to fulfill the position of chairperson of SHEILA. SHEILA is an organisational network for, and by alumni of Maastricht University’s MHPE and PhD programmes. The leadership of the MHPE programme has shown itself happy to facilitate, but cannot influence our process.
I would recommend being pragmatic. I have been asked if I'm willing to continue my chair-position for another three years, and I will be happy to do so on our behalf. But if others are interested in this position I'm willing to step back.
May I propose the following procedure?
- I will put myself forward as chairperson of SHEILA between January 2011 and January 2014
- Herewith I invite others to step forward if they are interested in candidacy for SHEILA’s chair before the end of summer 2010
- We will hold elections in electronic format in the fall of 2010.
