Bachelor-master system

Maastricht University education is based on the bachelor–master system, a common higher education system used in Europe and many countries beyond, including the US. As a result, its programmes are internationally compatible, enabling students to do part of their studies abroad, and diplomas are internationally better recognised. Maastricht University offers a broad range of bachelor’s and master’s programmes.

Bachelor’s programmes in Maastricht
Maastricht University offers bachelor’s programmes in Economics & Business, Behaviour & Society, Healthcare, Liberal Arts & Sciences, Science, Law, and Language & Culture. All programmes take three years.

A bachelor’s degree (Bachelor of Science (BSc) of Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Maastricht University gives access to a wide variety of master’s programmes both at UM and elsewhere in the Netherlands, Europe and beyond. Maastricht University focuses on multidisciplinary and innovative research and aims for close contacts with industry, government and other academic institutions.

Master’s programmes in Maastricht
Maastricht University offers around 45 master’s programmes, most of which are offered in English, and this number continues to increase. They lead to various academic degrees: Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc), and Master of Laws (LLM). Moreover, students who wish to embark on a scientific career and undertake doctoral research can do a research master’s.
