Programme information

The Mental Health master’s programme prepares students for a career in mental healthcare. As of September 2011 the programme offers two specialisations, namely:

  • Adult Psychopathology
  • Child and Adolescent Psychopathology

Adult Psychopathology

Students are required to take units in neuropsychological, psychotic and personality disorders, and will also learn clinical intervention strategies, diagnostics and skills in designing, executing and reporting scientific research. Students have the choice of either doing a clinical internship at a certified mental health centre or taking additional master's courses. Curriculum overview.

Child and Adolescent Psychopathology

Students are required to take units in internalising, developmental and externalising disorders in children and adolescents, and will also learn clinical intervention strategies, diagnostics and skills in designing, executing and reporting scientific research. Students have the choice of either doing a clinical internship at a certified mental health centre or taking additional master's courses. Curriculum overview.

Clinical internships and Dutch fluency requirement

The Mental Health programme collaborates with a variety of healthcare institutions to find clinical internships for master's students. Since most of these institutions are Dutch, fluency in Dutch is a prerequisite. Entrance requirements to postgraduate psychology studies and licensure include at least 520 clinical internship hours. The internship may be replaced by electives, but we do not offer electives ourselves, so students have to take them elsewhere.
