Admissions
Applicants to the Master of Science in Mental Health programme must have one of the following:
- a bachelor's degree in Mental Health (in Dutch: Geestelijke Gezondheidkunde)
- a bachelor's degree in Psychology at Maastricht University or another university.
Please note that students who exhibit shortcomings in theoretical knowledge and clinical skills with respect to the domain of psychopathology, will have to follow additional education before entering the Mental Health programme.
Non-Dutch students must also demonstrate proficiency in the Dutch language, e.g. through a certificate of the national exam "Dutch as a second language" (NT2).
Bachelor's degree from a University of Applied Sciences (in Dutch: HBO)
Until recently students with a bachelor's degree from a university of Applied Sciences were also admissible to the master's programme in Mental Health. These students had to follow a 1-year obligatory bridging programme. This programme consisted of both theoretical and therapeutic blocks from the Dutch bachelor's programme in Mental Health Sciences (in Dutch: Geestelijke Gezondheidkunde). Due to a curriculum restructuring this programme can no longer be offered as of September 2011. It is still unknown whether a comparable programme will be developed in the near future to guarantee admission for students with a bachelor's degree from a University of Applied Sciences. In case you want to be informed about future developments, please send an e-mail to: study-fhml@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
