Teaching methods

Most units of the Master of Health Professions Education are distance-based. Two units are campus-based; the first unit in year 1 and the first unit in year 2. The starting date of these units is Monday 20 May 2013.

The campus-based units are especially intended for skills training, knowledge and skills about working in problem-based learning and getting to know the other students. They are also meant to provide an overview of the content of the units that are still to come.

In the distance education units, students work on assignments that need to be done either individually or in collaboration with other students. An electronic learning environment Blackboard is available for the students. Internet access is a definite prerequisite for participants in the programme since the communication is mainly done by email and Blackboard.

The instructional method of the face-to-face units is Problem-Based Learning (PBL). Learning-by-doing is central to the curriculum, both as an object of study and as a method of learning. Strong emphasis is placed on practical exercises, since the ability to apply the acquired knowledge is of paramount importance, particularly to health professions education. Students can immediately apply the insights to their own situation.
