Health Education and Promotion

A gram of prevention is worth a kilo of cure. But helping people to live a healthier lifestyle is not an easy task. Health promotion, as defined by the World Health Organization, is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. This includes:

    • health education
    • healthy policy making
    • creating supportive environments
    • using social marketing approaches

The specialisation in Health Education and Promotion within the master’s programme in Public Health focuses on the development and evaluation of health interventions at both the behavioural and environmental levels. The specialisation is interdisciplinary, combining elements of psychology, communications, epidemiology, biomedicine, sociology, political science and management.

Research is an integral part of the specialisation in Health Education and Promotion. The programme is linked to the research goals of the following institutes:

The specialisation in Health Education and Promotion is taught entirely in English. Students can either complete the curriculum as a one-year, full-time programme or as a two-year, part-time programme.
Graduates will receive a Master of Science in Public Health, with a specialisation in Health Education and Promotion.
