Programme information

Each year of the bachelor’s programme in Medicine focuses on a central theme. The first year emphasises the human body in health and sickness, the second year focuses on stages of life and diagnostics and the third year on chronic disorders. The first and second years consist of course blocks that incorporate lectures, tutorials, seminars and practical skills trainings structured around a central theme.

Patient encounters
Your role in patient encounters begins with observation. Over time this gradually becomes more active and you are given more and more responsibility. You will spend time in the outpatient clinics and in a general practice, which will give you practical experience with the primary problems patients face when visiting a doctor.

The Medicine programme at Maastricht University responds to developments in healthcare, for example diabetes and obesity. You are not only equipped with sound medical knowledge and social and interpersonal skills, but also an understanding of cutting-edge developments in the field of medicine.
