After the bachelor's
The 'basic doctor’ programme at Maastricht University’s Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences consists of the three-year bachelor’s in Medicine and a three-year master’s programme.
Master’s in Medicine in Dutch
The master’s programme focuses on being active in healthcare and research. Your master’s degree entitles you to call yourself a 'basic doctor'. It also means that you are eligible to apply for a place in a specialty training programme, such as general practice (three years), psychiatry (five years), paediatrics (six years), surgery (six years), sports medicine (four years) or occupational medicine (four years). Or if you prefer to become a doctor without borders, you can also be trained as a tropical doctor (2.5 years).
Research Master
Alternatively, after the bachelor’s programme you can also decide to take a research master’s programme. Rather than becoming a 'basic doctor', this means you will deepen your skills and experience in research.
