Research programmes
The Research Institute of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of Maastricht University unites the research being done in the different parts of the Faculty. It comprises four distinct programmes, which form the backbone of our research:
Politics and Culture in Europe (PCE)
This programme focuses on theoretical, normative and empirical questions related to the phenomenon of European integration.
Science, Technology and Society (STS)
Researchers in this programme analyse how modern societies are constituted by science and technology, and how, vice versa, social and cultural conditions shape technological and scientific developments.
Arts, Media and Culture (AMC)
This programme studies the intricate process of cultural change and the dynamics of cultural remembrance.
The Globalisation and Development Initiative (GDI)
The GDI explores the transnational linkages between the Global South and the rest of the world as well as within the Global South. The GDI is an emergent research programme that still is of smaller size than the three established programmes.
In an attempt to further carve out the academic profile of our faculty, we have identified three thematically defined focal points around which activities of the three established research programmes converge (the GDI, because of its recent establishment and smaller size when compared to the other programmes has not yet defined such a focal point).
