Minor in Globalisation and Development
The Faculty currently hosts a minor program on Globalisation and Development consisting of three modules: Globalisation and Inequality; Development and Poverty in the 21st Century; and a concluding seminar and symposium Migration: People on the Move alternating with HIV/Aids Reflecting on the Pandemic. This English-language program has been running for 5 years, attracts over 150 students, half of which are international and from the different faculties of Maastricht University and exchange students from various countries, including from Macalester College, USA.
Problem and Project Based Learning methods are used so that despite the large enrollment, students are divided into small tutorial groups of 12-15 students each, allowing them to receive personalized attention from highly qualified faculty.

MA Globalisation and Development Studies
In September 2011, a one-year (60 ECTS), international and multidisciplinary master's programme on Globalisation and Development Studies will start. The programme will accept between 30 to 45 students per year.
The programme addresses ‘classical’ development issues such as poverty, environment, natural resource management, migration and governance, and provides students with a sound theoretical basis on different approaches and theories of development and globalisation.
At the same time, the programme adopts a transnational perspective to the study of the above issues and theories by drawing out the interconnections between countries and actors that shape the way social phenomena take place in specific parts of the world. In so doing, new perspectives on inequality, diversity and vulnerability are imparted.
The programme offers a wide selection of electives from within the faculty but also gives access to specially tailored courses in the Faculties of Economics and Business Administration, Law, Health, medicine and Life Sciences, the Graduate School of Governance and the International Centre for Integrated Assessment and Sustainable Development so that students can compose a program to suit their interests and needs. The program also provides the opportunity to students to conduct an internship or fieldwork as part of their program. Please find more information about this master and and the application procedure via the section on Masters.
