Technology & Society Studies
The Department of Technology & Society Studies provides the social-scientific input for the teaching and research conducted by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Teaching
Members of the Department of Technology & Society Studies are actively involved in the following:
- Masters degree courses in Arts and Sciences (CWS) and European Studies (ES);
- Masters degree courses in European Programme on Society, Science and Technology: Governance and Cultures of Innovation (ESST), and European Public Affairs (EPA).
Research
The research carried out by members of the Department of Technology & Society Studies takes place in the Research Institute for Arts and Culture, within the sections Modernisation and Cultural Identity; Technology and Society: social and technological theory; and Science and Culture: texts and contexts. The main focus of the group's research contribution is in Section 2: Technology and Society. The department organises regular BOTS meetings (BOTS = Opportunities for Research in Technology and Society).
All researchers are members of the Netherlands Graduate School of Science, Technology and Modern Culture (WTMC). For more information about research projects, consult the individual members of the Department of Technology & Society Studies.
The Department is also involved with the Virtual Knowledge Studio Maastricht (VKS), a joint venture of Maastricht University and the Virtual Knowledge Studio of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
Management and administration
Members of the Department of Technology & Society Studies take part in many aspects of the management of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, such as the Faculty Council, the Teachers' Committee and the path co-ordination.
