Course descriptions
The Cultures of Arts, Science and Technology programme is comprised of four semesters over two years. Throughout the first year, 5 different modules will introduce you to the research field and practice of CAST. You will work individually or in small groups to learn, and experiment with, research skills such as interviewing, ethnographic observation, and archival studies. The first year ends with a joint research project in which you write an edited book or special issue journal with your fellow students. Furthermore you will learn how to write a research proposal, to train that skill which is now so regularly called for.
During the second year, you will do a research internship, working closely with a senior researcher in a knowledge-intensive institute or, through the networks of the CAST professors, at one of the partner universities in Europe or the USA. Following this internship, you will write a master's thesis that will demonstrate your grasp of all of the skills you have learned.
Furthermore, CAST students participate in the regular research seminars of the faculty's research groups of Science, Technology and Society (STS) and Arts, Media and Culture (AMC). This offers you a unique 'behind the scenes' look at the practices of a large research institution and allows you to directly interact with the researchers of our faculty.
