Programme information
The bachelor’s programme in Arts and Culture examines the interrelationships between science, culture, and politics in Western society. The programme is divided into two phases of a year and a half each.
The first phase, which is the same for all Arts and Culture students, consists of a series of six chronological modules. You will learn about the origins and development of Western thought until present day. The curriculum is linked to contemporary society so that today’s problems can be understood in a historical context.
During the second phase of the programme you will pick one of four specialisations:
- Cultures of Knowledge and Technology – examines the effect of science and technology on our society and culture
- Literature, Arts and Culture – examines how art, literature and culture reflect on a series of key themes of modern society
- Political Culture – examines problems of democracy, human rights, political fundamentalism and totalitarianism
- Media Culture – examines the evolution of New Media and its impact on society
At the beginning of the third year, there is a free semester in which you can do an internship, study abroad, choose a minor or take courses at another faculty or university or at the local art academy or music academy.
