Curriculum vitae
Since September 2005 Ria Wolleswinkel is Faculty of Law’s Director of Studies. She is Member of the Board of the Maastricht Centre for Human Rights and National Director of the European Master in Human Rights and Democratisation. She is also involved in the Centre of Gender and Diversity at Maastricht University.
As Associate Professor of Women and Law she worked at the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology. In research her main focus is gender perspectives of family rights of prisoners and their families. She wrote her PHD thesis on Women in Detention and their right to family life (1997). Afterwards she also published on the rights of children of imprisoned parents. From 2000-2005 she has been President of the European Committee for Children of Imprisoned Parents (EUROCHIPS) in Paris.
In the field of education she coordinated from 1997 till 2001 a course “Introduction to law” at the Law Faculty and she still is co-editor of the book belonging to the course. She also coordinated the creation of the course book “An introduction to law” in English for the University College Maastricht. She still coordinates a multidisciplinary course on “Victims in (criminal) law” (in Dutch).

Curriculum vitae
Maria W. (Ria) Wolleswinkel is universitair hoofddocent Vrouw en Recht. Zij is lid van de capaciteitsgroep Strafrecht en Criminologie en van de Onderzoeksschool Rechten van de Mens. Voordat zij rechten studeerde, was zij zes jaar maatschappelijk werkster in een psychiatrisch ziekenhuis. In 1982 begon zij met de studie Rechten in Maastricht. In 1986 studeerde zij cum laude af. In haar onderzoek houdt zij zich met name bezig met vrouwen in detentie en met kinderen van gedetineerde ouders. Zij maakte deel uit van de begeleidingscommissie van een moeder-met-kind unit in een vrouwengevangenis. Ook was zij voorzitter van de begeleidingscommissie bij een onderzoek naar de implementatie van het Vrouwenverdrag inzake geweld tegen vrouwen in Nederland. Momenteel is zij voorzitter van het European Committee for Children of Imprisoned Parents te Parijs. Ook is zij voorzitter van de holding Maatwerk in Kinderopvang. Daarnaast is zij vertrouwenspersoon inzake ongewenste (seksuele) intimidaties voor basisscholen in Maastricht.
(Belangrijkste) publicaties en gegeven onderwijs
Ria Wolleswinkel schreef diverse publicaties over gedetineerde vrouwen. Haar proefschrift is getiteld "Gevangen in moederschap. Gedetineerde vrouwen en het recht op family life." (1997) Daarna publiceerde zij tevens over kinderen van gedetineerden. In het onderwijs coördineerde zij van 1997-2001 het blok "Inleiding in het recht". Zij maakt deel uit van de redactie van het bij het blok behorende inleidende boek "Recht, vaardig en zeker".(2002) Daarnaast geeft zij het keuzeblok "Slachtoffers in het (straf) recht en het practicum "Onderhandelen".
Zij is betrokken bij het interfacultaire Centrum voor Gender en Diversiteit en coördineert de nieuw op te zetten cursus "Introduction in law " voor het University College Maastricht.
