Curriculum Vitae
Renata Vargas Amaral is a PhD fellow both at the Faculty of Law, Maastricht University, Institute for Globalization and International Regulation - IGIR (since December, 2010) and at the Faculty of Law, Federal University of Santa Catarina - UFSC (since September, 2008). She obtained her Master´s degree ins International Business Law at the Complutense Univeristy of Madrid in 2006, School of Law. Renata was a Researcher at the International Relations Institute at UFSC and a Member of the International relation Commission at Santa Catarina's Bar Association in Brazil. She was also a professor at the University of Federal District (UDF) and worked with legal services for the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil. Recently Renata was a consultant for the Department of International Affairs at the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development.
The working title of her PhD thesis is "The asymmetry of economic power between the WTO Members and the veiled encouragement to the non-implementation of Dispute Settlement Body Decisions". The research focuses in the examination of how the economic power of countries involved in a trade dispute influence the implementation of decisions adopted by the WTO.  The research project addresses the problem of identifying whether the distinguished level of economic development of WTO Members is related to the lack of effectiveness of the mechanisms for the implementation of Dispute Settlement Body decisions.
