Curriculum vitae
Mr. Seitter received his Artium Baccaulerei in History, with a Minor in Philosophy, from Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri in 1988. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho College of Law, Moscow, Idaho in 1993. Mr. Seitter became a member of the Washington State Bar Association in 1993, and worked briefly as a prosecutor before joining the Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel in Tacoma, Washington in 1994. He defended numerous legal aid clients accused of probation violations and felony criminal charges and wrote an appeal on criminal incompetency grounds to the Washington State Court of Appeals, Division II.
Mr. Seitter returned to Idaho in 1996 to become a judicial clerk to the Honorable Dennis E. Goff, District Judge, Third Judicial District, Caldwell, Idaho. His duties included researching and writing draft appellate opinions reviewing lower courts, drafting jury instructions, and assisting the court in determining motions and hearings in both civil and criminal matters.
In 1999, Mr. Seitter joined the Skagit County Public Defender's Office in Mt. Vernon, Washington. He represented numerous legal aid clients accused of misdemeanors and felonies in all types of criminal proceedings. Some of his jury trials included: Driving Under the Influence, Domestic Violence Assault, Theft, Burglary, Delivery of drugs, Assault in the First Degree and Aggravated Murder in the First Degree.
Mr. Seitter became a partner in a private firm, Hiatt & Seitter, with an office in downtown Seattle, Washington in 2001. The law firm defended both misdemeanor and felony criminal clients in over 30 different municipal and county courts in Washington State. His cases ranged from defending traffic infractions to charges of Manufacture of a Marijuana, Kidnapping, Attempted Murder, Trafficking in Stolen Property and Leading Organized Crime. He represented a client in a Child Rape and Incest jury trial and in several misdemeanor jury trials. The law firm also took appointed Federal criminal cases from the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington including : Identity Theft, Bank Fraud, Possession of Illegal Explosives and Money Laundering. Mr. Seitter also assisted other attorneys with legal research and writing for their appeals to the Washington State Court of Appeals and Washington State Supreme Court.
In September of 2005, Mr. Seitter took a sabbatical from the law and traveled in Europe. He earned the Cambridge English Language Teaching to Adults certification in Sevilla, Spain. He taught English to adults in Malaga and Barcelona, and to children attending summer schools in England. In 2006 and 2007, he was Director of Studies for the summer camps.
In February of 2008, Mr. Seitter began lecturing to students at Maastricht University while completing the Magister Iuris Communis program. In June of 2008, Mr. Seitter was awarded an LL.M with a specialization in International Criminal Law from Maastricht University. Since then, he has tutored several courses at the Faculty of Law such as: Introduction to Law and Legal English, Legal Skills Training, Introduction to the Common Law, Legal Writing, and the Atrocity Triangle course at University College Maastricht.
