Curriculum vitae
Andrea Ott is Associate Professor of European Union Law at the Law Faculty of Maastricht University. Since 2011 she holds a Jean Monnet Chair in EU law. She studied law at the University of Cologne (1988-1993) and finished her education as a lawyer in 1997 at the District Court of Cologne. She held a position as researcher at the Chair of International and European Law at University of Greifswald (Germany) between 1994 and 1995, where she obtained her PhD in 1996 on the integration of GATT/WTO law into the EC legal order. From 1998 until 2003 she was senior research fellow in European Law and International Economic Law at the T.M.C. Asser Institute in The Hague, the Netherlands, and in 2002/2003 Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.
She has wide experience in legal consultancy for Dutch ministries and the European Commission in Central and Eastern Europe and teaches regularly on European institutional law, EU external relations, enlargement and WTO law in the Netherlands, Central and Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. Since 1999, she is a visiting guest professor for International Economic Law at the M.A. European Studies of the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand and since 2005 teaches a Jean Monnet Module on EU external relations at Maastricht University.
Andrea’s principal areas of interest are EU institutional law, EU external relations and enlargement law. She is IUS Commune programme coordinator of the research programme Integration, Differentiation and Flexibility: New Perspectives on EU Law and Policy.
Andrea is a scholar of the Maastricht Centre for European Lawand a member of the Ius Commune Research School. She is member of the editorial committee of Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law and Member of the board of CLEER (Centre of EU External relations law), a research activity and institution between the universities of Rotterdam, Leiden, Twente, Maastricht and the TMC Asser Institute on EU external relations law.
Andrea teaches EU institutional law and EU external relations law at the European Studies programme of FASOS and the Maastricht Faculty of Law. She is a visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
