Curriculum Vitae
Marc van Oosterhout holds 2 LLM law degrees from Maastricht University, one on Dutch Law; Criminal Law (2011) degree and another on Forensics, Criminology and Law (2011). During his studies at Maastricht University he worked as a student-assistant at Maastricht University, teaching in the course Criminal- and Criminal Procedural Law, and doing research for Hans Nelen and Frans Leeuw. He also volunteered at the Student Law Firm in Maastricht.
In November 2011 he started as a junior researcher in the Suspects’ Rights in Police Detention in the EU-Project, supervised by Prof. T. Spronken, at Maastricht University, dep. of Criminal Law and Criminology. The research will explore and compare the effectuation of criminal defence rights of suspects in police detention in selected EU countries (England & Wales, Scotland, France and the Netherlands). Actual fieldwork will be conducted at various sites in the aforementioned countries. Marc will be conducting the research in Maastricht and Glasgow.
The aim of the research is to establish a best practice model with regard to some of the new European provisions stemming from Measure C and the whole development of the Salduz-jurisprudence and later jurisprudence.
Marc is also expected to teach in various courses. This means that he might help out again during Criminal- and Criminal Procedural Law (2.5), but he will definitely be teaching in Introduction to Dutch Law, wherein he will be the tutor for the Criminal Law part of the course.
