Curriculum vitae
Daniar Rahmawati Natakusumah is a PhD fellow at IGIR. She obtained a degree in Law summa cum laude from the Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and an LLM from Harvard University Law School. She has worked at the Universitas Gadjah Mada as the Director of the Office of International Affairs and as the Director of the Center for Law and Technology Studies. She has also worked as a lecturer and researcher in the Business Law Division of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada. In 2003-2004 Daniar worked as an associate at SSEK Indonesian Legal Consultancy, in Jakarta, Indonesia. Daniar is also a Partner at ABN&Partners Law Firm in Jakarta, Indonesia. In 1999-2000 she  worked as an Of Counsel at Mc Kenna Cuneo LL.P, Denver, USA.

The working title of her PhD thesis is: “The Need for an Emergency Safeguard Mechanism for Developing Country Members of the WTO under the GATS”. It analyses the importance and need of an emergency safeguard mechanism (ESM) for developing country Members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) under the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) by making comparisons with the experience regarding the ESM for trade in goods under the GATT. The research will also examine the experience of the ESM for trade in services under regional trade agreements. Finally, the research will propose a formulation for the EMS for trade in services to be implemented. The PhD research is supervised by Prof. dr. Peter Van den Bossche and is funded by the Directorate General of Higher Education of the National Education Department of the Republic of Indonesia. The research started in 2008 and will be completed by 2012.
