Curriculum Vitae
Elise Muir is an Assistant Professor at Maastricht Faculty of Law. She studied law both in France and in the UK (Maîtrise, LLB & LLM) before starting postgraduate European legal studies at the College of Europe in Belgium (LLM). She completed her PhD in 2010 at the University of London on “The Community at work: Community constraints on Member State competence to regulate access to labour markets” (2010, under the supervision of Professor Takis Tridimas).
Her fields of interest within EU law are: social law, free movement of persons (EU citizens and third country nationals), constitutional questions and judicial remedies. As from September 2011 she will be a Marie Curie Fellow and will devote her research to the analysis of the horizontal effects of the EU principle of non-discrimination.
Elise is a scholar of the Maastricht Centre for European Law. She has worked as a senior academic assistant in the LLM program of the College of Europe for several years (2003-2007). She has been a visiting doctoral researcher at Columbia Law School (Fulbright grantee) and the European University Institute in 2007-2008 before working as a grantee and researcher of the Fondation pour l’innovation politique until 2009.
Elise teaches EU substantive law and institutional law at Maastricht University. She has also been the main coach of the European Law Moot Court team (2009-2011). She is regularly invited to provide introductory courses on EU internal market and institutional law in the Master programs of the College of Europe (Bruges) as well as in Kosovo (European Integration Program, Kosovar Civil Society Foundation). She has also been a lecturer at EDHEC in Lille.
