Curriculum vitae

Anne Pieter van der Mei is an Assistant Professor in EU Law at Maastricht Faculty of Law. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen, completed the Post-Graduate Course for Researchers in International and European Law (T.M.C. Asser Instituut, The Hague) and obtained his PhD entitled “Free Movement of Persons within the European Community - Cross-border Access to Public Benefits” at the Maastricht University.


Anne Pieter is the Director of the Master Programmes European Law School, Globalization and Law and Internationals. He currently teaches courses in European Institutional law, European Labour & Social Security Law and European Political History. He has been a visiting researcher/lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Legon (Accra, Ghana), the University of Puerto Rico (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and William Mitchell College of Law (St.Paul, Minnesota, USA).


In his research Anne Pieter mainly focuses on, first, the impact of EU law on national welfare states and, second, comparative regional integration. In addition, Anne Pieter is a ‘volunteer extraordinaire’ for Africa Legal Aid, a Pan-African NGO based in Accra (Ghana) and The Hague (the Netherlands) devoted to promoting and protecting individual and collective rights throughout Africa and to challenging the impunity of gross human rights violators.  He is a scholar of the Maastricht Centre for European law and a member of the Ius Commune research School.
