Professor of International Law and Director of the Maastricht Centre for Human Rights (since 2000). (Senior) Lecturer in International Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam (1987-2000). Legal Adviser at the International Secretariat of Amnesty International in London (1978-1987). Chair of the Netherlands Government’s Advisory Committee on Questions of Public International Law and member of the Netherlands Government’s Advisory Committee on Human Rights. Chair of the Netherlands School of Human Rights Research. Member of the Board of Editors of the Netherlands International Law Review. Trustee of the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre. Master degrees in international law and international relations from Groningen University (1973) and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (1974). Ph.D. from Leiden University (1990).
