Curriculum vitae
Christine van Basten (1971) studied Dutch law at Maastricht University (LL.M 2005) and is currently working on several projects at the Faculty of law. Formerly she worked as a lecturer in Dutch private law at Maastricht University, where she coordinated and lectured several civil and company law courses on Bachelor’s and Master’s level (2005-2008).
During her law studies in Maastricht, Christine worked as a research assistant and member of the project team working on the research project Maatschappelijk Verantwoord Ondernemen (MVO); Vennootschapsrechtelijke operationalisering van een relatief vaag normenkader. The project was executed jointly by the faculty of law (Maastricht University) and Nyenrode University and was part of the Dutch National Research Program on Corporate Social Responsibility (2003 – 2004) financed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Her dissertation entitled ‘De kracht van het collectief: Een explorerend onderzoek naar Maatschappelijk Verantwoord Ondernemen en haar afdwingbaarheid door middel van het collectief actierecht’ (The power of the collective. An exploratory study into socially responsible entrepreneurship and its enforceability using the collective right of action) was awarded the NBN-Rabobank Scriptieprijs. Previously, Christine was presented with a dissertation award of the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen, the oldest ‘learned society’ in the Netherlands.
Christine also obtained a bachelor degree in hospitality management from the Maastricht Hotel Management School (BA 1996) with a focus on business administration.
