Curriculum vitae
Chris Backes was born in Nettetal (Germany) and studied law, politics and Dutch in Freiburg i. Br. and Münster. He gained an LL.M. in Dutch law for foreigners in Nijmegen.
In 1995 Prof.Dr. Chris W. Backes, LL.M. was appointed as Professor of International and European Environmental Law at Tilburg University. From 1998 until 2007 he was Professor of Environmental Law at Utrecht University and Director of the Centre for Environmental Law and Policy/NILOS (CELP/NILOS) . From October 2007 on, he works as Professor of Constitutional and Administrative Law at Maastricht University. Amongst other things, he is a member of the Dutch Commission for Environmental Impact Assessment, member of the supervisory board of the Stichting Advisering Bestuursrechtspraak and chairman of the Board of Appeal for Examinations of Maastricht University. Chris Backes specialises in European administrative law and comparative administrative law.
